Dr. Charmille Hare recently joined Upson Family Physicians to offer Family Medicine full-time in Barnesville.

Upson CEO David Castleberry says Dr. Hare will help meet a growing demand for primary care services in Barnesville.  “As our communities grow, so does the need for access to primary healthcare,” he said. “With Dr. Hare in Barnesville full-time, we aim to meet that health need.”  

Most recently, Dr. Hare served as Chief Resident for Duke University’s Southern Regional Area Health Education Center in Fayetteville, N.C., where she practiced for three years. 

Dr. Hare is a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.). D.O.s are complete physicians who, along with M.D.s, are licensed to prescribe medication and perform surgery in all 50 states. But D.O.s bring something extra to the practice of medicine.

Osteopathic physicians practice a "whole person" approach to medicine, treating the entire person rather than just the symptoms. With a focus on preventive health care, D.O.s help patients develop attitudes and lifestyles that don't just fight illness, but help prevent it, too. D.O.s are trained to be doctors first, and specialists second.

Family practice has always been Dr. Hare’s passion. “I enjoy the personal relationships that are established by caring for my patients.  I take great pleasure in being the first person my patient comes to with a concern and being able to coordinate their care.” 

Dr. Hare and her husband, Thalmus, have a very active and energetic 18 month old son and are expecting another child early next year.  When she’s not helping patients, Dr. Hare enjoys being the taste tester for her husband' s cooking, as he is an aspiring chef.

Attracted to the area because of its small-town feel and potential for growth, Dr. Hare chose to be a part of Upson Regional Medical Center because of its progressiveness.  “Upson is continually growing and finding new ways to support and serve the surrounding communities,” she said.  “I am impressed by the technology, the medical advances and most importantly by the medical staff.”
